Cookie Policy
The short version. A handful of cookies are needed to log you in, keep the site secure and take payment — those always run. Everything else, analytics and advertising measurement, only runs if you accept it in the cookie banner. Say no and the site works exactly the same.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. They let a site remember things between page loads and between visits — that you are logged in, what you chose in a banner, which pages you looked at.
This policy also covers similar technologies that do the same job by other means, including browser local storage. Where this policy says "cookies", it means all of them.
Cookies set by stockinvesting.academy are called first-party. Cookies set by a company whose service runs on our pages — our payment processor, for example — are called third-party.
2. Your choice, and how to change it
When you first arrive you are shown a cookie banner. Strictly necessary cookies are set regardless, because the site cannot work without them. Analytics and advertising cookies are set only if you accept them.
Your choice is remembered in a cookie of its own, so you are not asked again on every visit. To change your mind, clear the cookies for this site in your browser — the banner will then appear again on your next visit and you can answer differently. You can also block or delete cookies entirely in your browser settings, described in section 7. If you would like help withdrawing consent, write to us and we will sort it out.
Declining the optional cookies costs you nothing. Every feature of the site keeps working.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These are set whether or not you accept anything, because without them you could not log in, stay logged in, or pay us. They are exempt from the consent requirement for exactly that reason.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Roughly how long |
|---|---|---|---|
| crumb | Squarespace | Security token that stops other websites from submitting forms as you | Session |
| SiteUserInfo, siteUserCrumb | Squarespace | Keeps you signed in to your member account and identifies your subscription | Until you sign out or it expires |
| hasCart | Squarespace | Remembers a checkout in progress | Session |
| ss_performanceCookiesAllowed, ss_marketingCookiesAllowed | Squarespace | Remembers the answer you gave in the cookie banner, so you are not asked again | Up to 1 year |
| __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Stripe | Fraud prevention during payment — recognises the browser making the payment | Up to 1 year, and 30 minutes |
4. Analytics cookies — only with your consent
These tell us how many people visit, which pages they read and where they arrive from, so we know what is worth building. They are about patterns across visitors, not about you personally.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Roughly how long |
|---|---|---|---|
| SS_ANALYTICS_ID | Squarespace | Distinguishes one visitor from another in our site statistics | Up to 2 years |
| ss_cvr, ss_cvt | Squarespace | Records that a visit happened and when it started | Up to 2 years, and session |
| _ga, _ga_<id> | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors and keeps session state for traffic reporting | Up to 2 years |
5. Advertising cookies — only with your consent
We advertise Stock Investing Academy, and these let us see which adverts actually lead to a signup. Without them we are paying for advertising blind.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Roughly how long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | Google Ads | Links an advert click to what happened afterwards, so we can count signups against campaigns | About 90 days |
| _gcl_ls | Google Ads | The same purpose, stored in browser local storage rather than a cookie | Until cleared |
6. Other things stored on your device
Our own local storage. The dashboards, the screener and the calculators save data in your browser's local storage — company figures already loaded, your position in the screener, your last calculator settings. This is what makes a dashboard open instantly the second time you visit it. It stays on your device, it is not sent to us, and it contains information about companies and your own settings, not about you. Clearing your browser data removes it; the site then simply reloads what it needs.
Embedded content. Some pages contain content served by other companies, and that content can set its own cookies once it loads or you interact with it:
- Substack — the newsletter sign-up form in our footer.
- YouTube — where a video is embedded, cookies are set by YouTube when you play it.
We do not control those cookies. They are governed by the privacy policies of the companies concerned.
7. Controlling cookies in your browser
Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies. The settings are usually here:
- Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies
- Safari — Settings › Privacy
- Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
- Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions
Blocking all cookies will stop you logging in and stop payments working, because of the cookies in section 3. Blocking only third-party cookies leaves the site fully usable.
You can also install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on if you want to opt out of Google Analytics across every site you visit.
8. Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal. There is still no agreed industry standard for how a website should respond to them, so we do not act on them automatically. The cookie banner is where your choice is recorded, and we honour it.
9. Third parties named here
If you want to know how these companies use what they collect, their own policies are the place to look: Google, Stripe, Squarespace, Substack.
10. Changes, and how to reach us
Cookies change as the tools we use change. We review this list periodically and update it, and the date at the top always shows the current version. The durations above are set by the providers and are indicative rather than guaranteed.
How cookie data fits into everything else we hold about you is set out in our Privacy Policy. Questions about either: contact.stockinvestingacademy@gmail.com.
